Timi Olagunju is a recipient of several awards for his distinction in open development and leadership, including an award from President Barack Obama and the Lead City University honorary award for youth engagement and national development.
Timi is a technology lawyer and professional speaker with core capacity in open governance, leadership management, and youth engagement. He litigated and defended the rights of communities in a number of high profile cases, some of which involved the Nigerian President (https://ynaija.com/who-wins-president-jonathan-sued-by-young-lawyer-over-fgs-youwin-program), and others involving public utilities such as Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
He is the co-founder, Youths in Motion (YIM), which operates actively in Nigeria, Liberia, Ghana, and New York, as a movement focused on promoting institutional opportunities for young people across Africa and in the diaspora. One of YIM’s signature program is Democracy in Action (http://presidentialprecinct.org/psx-html ), which promotes democracy by providing the platform for young leaders to closely interact with parliamentarians at a State level. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), a member of the International Association of Information Technology Lawyers (IAITL) with endorsement from the World Intellectual Property Organization, a fellow of the Presidential Precinct (http://presidentialprecinct.org/category/fellows_blogs/nigeria/timi-olagunju ) , a founding member of Commonwealth Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs (CAYE) – West Africa, and a Trustee of the Nigeria Internet Society (NIS) with affiliation to the International Internet Society.
Through his platforms, Timi has trained a combined number of over 30, 000 youths across Africa, especially in Nigeria, on the subject of ethical leadership, social entrepreneurship, open governance, and human rights. He has authored and co-authored three books namely: ‘The Hustlers’ Mentality’, ‘Leading From Within’, and ‘Yes Africa Can’.
Timi studied Law at the University of Ibadan, and earned a Certificate in the Science of Communication from the Graduate School of Communication, Amsterdam. He has also attended leadership, business, and policy training at University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, and the College of Williams and Mary.
Timi speaks English and French, and loves listening to country and afrobeat music.
